The walking path from Montalcino winds through these idyllic Tuscan hills, heading toward San Quirico d’Orcia. Halfway through, there is a circle of cypress trees that breaks the horizon line. Apparently, underneath, there is the burial ground of German soldiers (is that why the trees grow so tidily?), but the energy of the place is nothing but magical and serene.
Sunset time is particularly delicious, especially with these late summer/early autumn hues.
